WWE Tips for Families

INFORMATION FOR THE 2023/24 SCHOOL YEAR

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • WWE Main Office: 303-982-5649 / Attendance Line: 303-982-5640 – Carol Gustafson and Jen Plichta are your front office contacts.
  • School starts at 8:15am and ends at 3:15pm
  • The “Soft Start” bell rings at 8:05am and students can enter the building at that time. (Students must be supervised by parents prior to 8:05am.) Students must be in the building before the tardy bell rings at 8:20am. After 8:20am all students need to check-in at the office w/ a parent.
  • WWE Websites:
  • West Woods Elementary: westwoods.jeffcopublicschools.org
  • West Woods PTSA: westwoodsptsa.membershiptoolkit.com

SCHOOL DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP

  • Kindergarten students (only) are dismissed 5 minutes BEFORE the 3:15pm general dismissal bell. If kindergarteners are picked up in-person, the teacher must see the approved pick-up guardian to release the kindergartener.
  • Parents of all students can meet children at their classroom door or in the main car pick up “loop.” All bus riders (daycare and Jeffco) are escorted by staff to their bus. SAE students in grades K-2 are escorted to SAE by their staff.

The Car Loop (Big Loop)

  • Students should be ready to get out of the car (after you pull in) seat belts off, backpacks ready and get out on the right side of the car near the sidewalk.
  • Do not get out of the car to help your student; WWE staff will be outside to assist if needed.
  • Pull up all the way up to the front of the loop or to the car in front of you; other students need to get out as well.
  • Students enter the school through the front door, playground door or bus loop door. Fifth grade students go directly to their classroom temp building.
  • WWE staff will make sure students get safely inside and will help guide them to the correct classroom.
  • Don’t leave your car parked in the loop during drop-off time or any time. Pull into a spot in the parking lot.

The North Bus Loop (Small Loop)

  • Parents can drop-off in the small loop after buses have left, which is generally 8:07am.
  • Don’t pull to the curb in between the buses or ahead of them; this is a safety hazard.
  • Parents cannot pick-up students after school in the small loop or along 72nd Ave in prohibited zones.

Additional Drop-Off/Pick-Up/Transportation Options

  • Parents can park in the main WWE parking lot, the West Woods Park lot (Bear Park) or on the street at the end of the path off 70th Street and walk students to their classroom door.
  • WWE welcomes students who bike and walk in. Bike parking is located on the west side of the building by the 5th grade classroom temp buildings.
  • The main crosswalk off Quaker Street is one of the safest ways to come to and from school for those needing to cross Quaker Street. This crosswalk is not staffed by a crossing guard.

VISITING STUDENTS

  • If parents need to drop off lunch, medication, or pick up their student early or for an appointment, they can push the button at the main entrance to speak with the front office staff and gain access to the school through the front doors. Be prepared with an ID for student pick up.
  • Students will only be released to contacts listed on their Infinite Campus account.Parents can join their students for lunch at school! All visitors must sign in and out through the office and wear a visitor badge.

MONTHLY PTSA MEETINGS

  • PTSA and SAC (Student Accountability Committee) meet monthly
  • This is a great time to learn all the ways families and the community help support WWE and the enrichment of our children.
  • PTSA Gatherings will be held in person and virtually on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. SAC is at 6pm; Principal Report is at 6:30pm and PTSA is at 6:45pm. PTSA’s first meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 13th; location TBD. ALL are welcome! An email with the agenda and link to join virtually is emailed the day of the gathering.

CLASSROOM PARTIES

  • There are three official classroom parties each year – Halloween (October 31) Winter Parties/Purpose (December 19) and Valentine’s Day (February 14). Parents are invited to volunteer and/or attend the parties.
  • Parents that would like to help plan class parties, can sign up as “Pack Parents” which is a group of parents who work on planning and implementing classroom parties. For parents that can’t help plan the parties, there are always ways to get involved through donations and/or volunteering the day of the party.
  • PTSA sponsors the Classroom Parties but to help offset costs, parents are encouraged to make a classroom party donation of $10 per student to help support the costs. Donations can be paid online at westwoodsptsa.membershiptoolkit.com
